Structural Elements of The Proposal
1. Narrative Elements
a. Character and Characterization
• Stephan Stephanovitch Chubukov: 70 years old. He is a landowner, stubborn person, and wise person.
• Natalya Stephanovna: 25 years old. She is a stubborn person, excellent housekeeper, not bad-looking, well-educated.
• Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov: 35 years old. He is very suspecious landowner, and a stubborn person.
b. Setting.
1) Setting of place : The setting of place of The Proposal drama is in the Chubukov’s country-house.
2) Setting of time : The setting of time of The Proposal drama is in the evening.
c. Plot
• The beginning: The story begin when Lomov come to the house of Chubukov to propose the Chubukov’s daughter, Natalya Stephanovna.
• The Middle: The problem appear when Lomov and Natalya having coversation, they debate each other about who is the owner of Oxen Meadov. Lomov leave the house of Natalya and Chubukov. Then Chubukov said to Natalya that the purpose why Lomov come to their house to propose Natalya. Then Natalya want Chubukov bring Lomov back. Then lomov back to their house and between Lomov and Natalya having conversation again. They start debate again about whose dog is better. During the debate, Lomov got sick and finally he unconciousness.
• The End: When Lomov concious, Chubukov said that he want Lomov and Natalya married. Between Lomov and Natalya happy for that. But they still debate about dog.
d. Theme
The theme of The Proposal drama is about the Lomov propose to Natalya.

2. Technical Elements
a. Mise-and-scene
1) The set dressing that looked in The Proposal drama is like the dress wear by Lomov. Lomov is wear dress-jacket, and white gloves.
2) The properties in The Proposal drama is like table, chair, glass etc.
3. The drama is about man and society.
